I am a Primary School teacher and also recently, a new blogger! Sharing all sorts from lifestyle, to baking, to beauty.
You can find my website at www.elizakate.com
My Instagram page is instagram.com/elizakate
My twitter handle is @elizakatewrites
I’m looking forward to connecting with other bloggers and writers to help our sites to grow!

  • What is the name of your blog or book and how did you get started?
My blog is called Eliza Kate Writes. I decided to start blogging as a hobby late in 2019, as I love writing about lots of different things. I then got busy with my work and so blogging took a back seat. However whilst working from home during the current lock down, I really got back into blogging and am more passionate about it than ever!

  • What is your favorite food?
I love so many foods… if I had to have one meal though it would be my Mum’s roast beef. With loads of Yorkshire puddings. And gravy…and crispy roast potatoes.

  • What foods do you crave all the time?
I go through phases of foods that I crave – sometimes it’s healthy, like pineapple, other times I’m just like ‘give me all the crisps!’

  • What is your favorite comfort food?
My favorite comfort food has to be a fresh loaf of bread, with a great crust and fluffy on the inside, with a generous helping of butter on top.

  • If you could learn how to make any food what would it be?
I would love to be able to make a baked Alaska!!

  • What is your favorite thing about being a blogger, writer, or author?
I love being able to write about literally anything that I want to, and that what I write can resonate with other people – I think that’s so amazing! I also love how helpful and supportive the blogging community is, particularly on Twitter.

  • What advice do you have for new writers just starting out?
As a new blogger, I would definitely say have fun and be yourself. Create your blog for you and let your personality shine through. Don’t worry about things like making money or self-hosting straight away, just concentrate on the writing. Also, don’t compare your successes to other people’s – just do you very best and above all, enjoy the journey!

  • What do you like to do for fun?
I love walking. I go out most days where I live. I’m really lucky I live in lovely rural countryside so there’s plenty of beautiful routes for me to take. I also love to bake, see friends, take photographs and chill with my cats and husband.

  • What helps you to stay motivated and keep writing?
There are so many subjects that motivate me to write, and as soon as inspiration hits I just make a note of it. So I’ve got an every growing list of blog topics, and when I come to think about writing a new blog, I just scroll the list and get excited all over again!

  • How do you attract new readers?
This is something that I am still learning as a new blogger, however Twitter and Instagram have been great so far, enabling me to share blog posts and gain followers from a wider audience. I also try to regularly update my website to make it as up to date and user friendly as possible.

  • What has influenced you the most as a writer?
My biggest influences are the things around me, that inspire me to write. I’m also pretty competitive, so when I see other’s doing well I really want to achieve the same as they are!

  • What is your favorite genre to read?
I love a good chick-lit, particularly when I’m on holiday. However I also love thrillers too!

Sophie Kinsella (writes a great chick-lit), Ian McEwan and Adam Kay (I’ve never laughed and cried so much as reading This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor).

  • Do you have any blogs or books you can recommend?
As mentioned above, I would highly recommend Adam Kay’s books about life as a Junior Doctor. They are written as a series of diary entries and just make you feel every emotion possible! I’m still discovering which blogs I like, but have always been a fan of Rosie Bea, who both vlogs on Youtube and blogs about her beautiful clothes designs.

  • If you could have super powers what would they be?
To restore the climate and eradicate disease.

  • What does a typical day of writing look like for you?
At the moment during lock down, I get up early, have breakfast, set the children their work for the day, check my little list of blogging subjects and just start typing and see where it takes me! I also try to network with other bloggers as much as I can via social media and upload a snap or two to my Instagram page.

  • What is your favorite movie that was based off a book?
Got to be Lord of the Rings. It’s just epic.

  • What projects are you working on right now?
I am currently redesigning my website and researching into how to use WordPress most effectively, it’s all very new and I’m still learning!

Featured Foodie Interview with Penny Johnson

Let us know a little about yourself and how we can connect with you via website, blog, books, and social media sites.

www.pennysfoodblog.com

pennysfoodblog on IG

just started a FB group called The Sourdough Connection https://www.facebook.com/groups/164381321683207

What is the name of your blog or book and how did you get started?

My blog is called Penny’s Food Blog, so original I know.  The blog started because people were always, always asking me for recipes and I was always typing them up and them my husband suggested that I start a blog so there would be a place for people to find all my recipes.  I didn’t know anything about blogging so my husband researched and found Word Press which provided a pretty simple way for me to blog.  I used my name so that my friends could find it easily.  I think I would have come up with a more creative name if I’d known how long I would be blogging for and how many people would follow me.  I have about 1500 followers, I know that’s not a ton but it still blows my mind!  I also have 11,000 followers on Pinterest which is even more mind blowing!

  • What is your favorite food?

I have a massive sweet tooth or perhaps a whole mouthful of sweet teeth so baked goods are my fav especially chocolate but I also love Italian food, if I had to pick one food to eat for the rest of my life it would be Italian.

  • What foods do you crave all the time?

Chocolate and sweets and pasta and bread, all the things that are bad for the waistline.

  • What is your favorite comfort food?

Ben and Jerry’s Everything But The ice cream

  • If you could learn how to make any food what would it be?

I love learning about all the foods!  Just recently I’ve gotten into sourdough starter and that has been a blast.  I do wish I was a better pie maker.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a blogger, writer, or author?

I love getting feedback from people telling me that they’ve tried one of my recipes and loved it!  I also love connecting with people from all over.

  • What advice do you have for new writers just starting out?

Just dive in and go for it!  It gets easier the longer you do it.

  • What do you like to do for fun?

I love to read and bake and cook and go to the movies and also the beach.

  • What helps you to stay motivated and keep writing?

I love to play with food and love to try new recipes so that makes blogging pretty easy for me.  It’s not often that I don’t want to play with food.

  • How do you attract new readers?

I have no idea how to do that.  I just blog away and hope for the best.

  • What has influenced you the most as a writer?

Other bloggers and their great ideas.

  • What is your favorite genre to read?

Sci Fi and Fantasy

  • What are you reading right now?

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead

  • What is something about yourself most people don’t know?

I’m a food blogger but I don’t make any money from my blog yet so my day job is in the film and television industry as a script supervisor.  I was working on a movie called “The Card Counter” written and directed by Paul Schrader and starring Oscar Isaac, Willem Dafoe, Tye Sheridan., and Tiffany Hadish when the corona virus hit and we were shut down with only a week to go.  I’m hoping we can start back up soon and finish it because I think it’s going to be a really good movie.

  • What kind of music do you like to listen to?

80’s alternative like Depeche Mode, the Smiths, the Cure, Roxy Music, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc

Who are your top three favorite authors?

Dean Koontz, John Scalzi, Anne Tyler

  • Do you have any blogs or books you can recommend?

any by the above authors

  • What projects are you working on right now?

I’ve been diving into sourdough and trying all things sourdough with my starter – waffles, pancakes, bread, biscuits, and I’ve also been trying all the Disney recipes that they’ve been releasing during this weird time of quarantining and social distancing Thanks for including me, let me know if this is okay. I realized that I don’t have a lot of pictures of my self.  The one attached is from a TV show I worked on called “Extinct”.

Thank you Penny for such a wonderful interview!

Featured Foodies Interview with Joseph Lewis

  • Let us know a little about yourself and how we can connect with you via website, blog, books, and social media sites.
  • After having been in education for forty-four years as a teacher, coach, counselor and administrator, Joseph Lewis is retiring on July 1st. He uses his psychology and counseling background in crafting psychological thriller/mysteries. He has taken creative writing and screen writing courses at UCLA and USC. Lewis has published six books, all available on Amazon and each to excellent reviews:
  •  Taking Lives (August 2014) the prequel to the Lives Trilogy;
  • Stolen Lives (November 2014) Book One of the Lives Trilogy;
  • Shattered Lives (March 2015) Book Two of the Trilogy; and
  • Splintered Lives (November 2015) Book Three of the Trilogy each from True Visions Publications;
  •  Caught in a Web (April 2018) from Black Rose Writing, which was a PenCraft Literary Award Winner for Crime Fiction and named “One of the Best Crime Fiction Thrillers of 2018!” by Best Thrillers;
  • Spiral Into Darkness (January 2019) from Black Rose Writing, which was named a Recommended Read by Author’s Favorites. His newest, Betrayed will debut November 2020, also from Black Rose Writing. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Lewis has been happily married to his wife, Kim. Together they have three wonderful children: Wil (deceased July 2014), Hannah, and Emily, and they now reside in Virginia.

  •  Blog at: https://jrlewis.blogspot.com
  • What is the name of your blog or book and how did you get started? My blog is Simple Thoughts From A Complicated Mind, Sort Of . . . it is an inspirational blog to bring hope and help folks consider choices and decisions, attitudes and beliefs. I began, I think, in 2013 or so.
  • What is your favorite food? I would kill for cookies and donuts. Oh, but I suspect you want “real” food. Hmm, anything Italian, but I make a great chili.
  • What foods do you crave all the time? Cookies. All kinds.
  • What is your favorite thing about being a blogger, writer, or author? To be able to connect with readers. I have wonderful conversations at book sales and signings with readers. I get nice comments on my blog- not so much in the comment section as I do on the Facebook pages or through email.
  • What advice do you have for new writers just starting out? Don’t quit reading. To me, reading is to writing as weight training is to athletics. You can’t do one well without the other. Secondly, develop a thick skin because not everyone will like or love what you write.
  • What do you like to do for fun? I love being with my family. I love movies and music.
  • What helps you to stay motivated and keep writing? The urge. I know that sounds trite, but I enjoy sitting at the keyboard and creating something from nothing.
  • How do you attract new readers? Right now, word of mouth seems to be going well. I’ve developed a small but rabid readership. I use groups in Facebook and Twitter.
  • What has influenced you the most as a writer? This is a good question. I think my life experiences. I think my job as a high school administrator and former counselor gives me insight into my adolescent characters. I read in the same genre I write: psychological thriller/mystery. I learn and have learned much from Patterson, Sandford, and Baldacci.
  • What is something about yourself most people don’t know? I am actually reserved. I force myself to be outgoing. A second thing that I’ve been doing for years is at my high school’s commencement ceremony, instead of giving a principal address, I select a song that means something to me or one that “fits” the class and sing it to them. It becomes their song. Long after the ceremony and for many years after, they remember “their” song.
  • What kind of music do you like to listen to? I grew up on Top 40, moved to Rock n Roll, but currently Modern Country. I am eclectic.
  • Who are your top three favorite authors? Patterson, Sandford, Baldacci, CJ Box.
  • Do you have any blogs or books you can recommend? For the writer, the book on dialogue – Shut Up, He Explained. It is my go to Bible. Stephen King’s On Writing is excellent.
  • What is your favorite movie that was based off a book? Kiss The Girls or Along Came A Spider (both Patterson books)
  • What projects are you working on right now? I have a new book, Betrayed, that comes out 11-12-20, and while I write, I’m currently writing a follow up tentatively titled Blaze In, Blaze Out. Both are in the psychological thriller/mystery genre.

Thank you Joseph for such a great interview!
